Area Orchards Celebrate APPLE Season !
It’s that time
of year again, so get excited. Always call ahead to your favorite apple
orchard and find out what picking varieties are available and times. All
New England apples are tasty and people have their favorites, so find
out which strains are ripe for picking during your visit.
About 40
varieties of apples are commonly grown in New England. Among the most
popular today are McIntosh, Cortland, Red Delicious, Macoun, Empire and
Rome.Also there are Crispin, Mutsu, Gala, Golden Delicious, IdaRed,
Jersey Mac, Jonagold, and Paula Red with heirloom choices of Baldwin,
Northern Spy and Pippin.

Curry Apple Pumpkin Soup
1
Med Red Onion peeled and diced
1
Tblsp of Madras Curry (at Supermarket)

Tblsp of Olive Oil
4
Cups Chicken Stock or Broth
1
15oz can of Pumpkin
1 or
2 medium Granny Smith Apples peeled. Cored and diced
1 ˝
Lemon for juice

jar of Muirhead Pecan Pumpkin Butter(Williams Sonoma Stores)
8 oz
of heavy cream ( can substitute with lite)
In a
4 Qt. SS All Clad James Beard Pan or regular saucepan over medium heat,
sauté the red onions, the apples and the curry for about 5 minutes.
Add
chicken broth and simmer for about 5 minutes, then add the pumpkin and
pumpkin butter and slowly whisk items together. Add the lemon juice.
Slowly add the cream stirring quietly.
Heat
up a baguette and “SOUP”S ON !”
